CASA of the Bluegrass - Frankfort is a non-profit volunteer-powered network of committed people -- from all walks of life -- who believe society has a fundamental obligation to children of abuse and neglect. A Court Appointed special Advocate (CASA) is a trained community volunteer appointed by The Honorable Squire Williams, our Family Court Judge of Franklin County. They speak up for the best interests of abused, neglected or dependent children in Franklin County who are brought before court and bring urgency to a child's needs, both in and out of the courtroom. CASA volunteers advocate for safety, permanency and well-being for children through independent recommendations.

Since merging with Family Abuse Services, The Sunshine Center has expanded its focus from the problem of child abuse to breaking the cycle of all family violence in our community. As part of its mission, they maintain the community's only Safe House/shelter for victims of domestic violence and abuse and operate as a clearinghouse for victims to receive critical information and assistance. The target population regarding child abuse services includes the adult survivors and child victims in our community who have been, or are currently suffering from abuse. The Sunshine Center strives to create a safe, neutral and nurturing environment for children and families in our community through: Education for improved parenting and life skills; Counseling and referral services to break the cycle of abuse; Charitable interventions to support families in crisis; Strengthening public awareness and understanding of the impact abuse has on families and children; and Supervised visitation with a non custodial relative to establish or maintain a relationship between the child and the relative (parent, grandparent, other). In summary services available are victim therapy, parenting classes, supervised visitation, and crisis intervention.
